The College is monitoring the unprecedented situation around the current outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid-19).
City of Glasgow College closed from 5pm on Tuesday 17 March.
All face to face teaching is now suspended with immediate effect.
Our focus remains firmly on the health and wellbeing of all our staff and students and we have been following closely the advice set out by The UK and Scottish Government. Students will be provided with guidance on continuing their studies.
Symptoms of coronavirus include:-
- feeling tired
- difficulty breathing
- high temperature
- a cough
For more information about symptoms please visit the NHS webpages.
What is the best way to protect myself and others against coronavirus?
There is currently no vaccine to prevent COVID-19. The best way to prevent infection is to avoid being exposed to the virus. Key to this is good hygiene:-
- Wash your hands with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitiser gel regularly throughout the day (hand sanitising gel has been provided across the college’s campuses)
- Catch your cough or sneeze in a tissue or bent elbow (not your hands), bin it and wash your hands
Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms
Stay at home if you have either:-
- a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
- a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.
You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.
Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home. Read the NHS advice about staying at home.
As this is an evolving situation for the most up to date information see the Government website or the Scottish Government website.
What is City of Glasgow College doing about coronavirus?
City of Glasgow College is acting on advice from sources including the FCO, WHO, NHS and Health Protection Scotland. We have taken proactive steps to ensure that everyone has access to the latest advice. We are monitoring the situation closely, have made plans to act quickly if the situation intensifies and will provide further updates as necessary. We have cancelled all international travel and student trips in the UK. Only essential travel for staff will go ahead.
Do any staff or students have the virus?
There are no confirmed cases of Covid-19 involving staff or students.
Course applications and interviews
New applications are being considered as usual. 2020/21 prospective students are being offered places without the need to travel to campuses for interview. Those places remain subject to places being available, students meeting expected entry requirements and qualifications.
