CitySA AGM 2024

Should the Students' Association lobby for more paid opportunities for students within the association?

Back

THE ISSUE

Providing more opportunities for student involvement and engagement with the Students' Association, by offering further paid positions as part time work for students across the Students' Association and college through; faculty representative, officers, administrators and student guidance support from students; including training from the SA to develop involvement and enhance the importance and vital role the Students' Association plays for students giving the SA an greater responsibility in college, student and external relations.

THE IDEA

The idea is for the Students' Association to find extra funding routes through the college or external stakeholders in some capacity to offer more students part time non voluntary work with the Students' Association outside the Presidential team such as to members of the student parliament playing a more direct role with students with offices spaces, guidance and administrative support roles to support students better. This would both provide training, references, paid work to help with the cost of living and extra responsibility for students outside the 4 presidential members who can receive extra financial support, employable skills and experience with office spaces that would be more direct and accessible to students.

THE IMPACT

The impact is to allow students to gain more employable skills, training, and paid work that can be non-voluntary, providing students with a wider, more serious and accessible set of students from the Presidential Team, Faculty Representatives, Officers, Administrators and Student Feedback and Guidance that can have a permanent office hours to offer advice, feedback and support for students from students on a host of issues. I believe it was support trust, community links and allow both students from all backgrounds to get support for applications, with lecturer support, class rep emails and advice, events, cross-faculty connections, specific paid officer roles which are yearly based can allow the persons best abilities to be utilised with paid hands on experience that means a student could devote several hours a week through paid work to focus on the issues of the SA outside the busy Presidential team.
