My name is Iona Gibson and I am running for Student President.

Currently, I hold the position of VP Diversity & Wellbeing within the SA, but I am ready to take this next step and dedicate my time to improving the student experience. The confidence and knowledge I have developed over the year will make me a successful President. I have the practical experience of setting up campaigns, such as promoting important resources related to Black Lives Matter and collaborating for Black history month. I have also set up initiatives to celebrate LGBTQ+ people.

I want to voice the opinions of students from all different backgrounds and ensure their issues are being heard. Mental wellbeing drives my work, having explored the mental health support within the college and continuing to work on destigmatising mental illness. I will investigate how COVID-19 has impacted on students' wellbeing and learning experience. This would be a priority for me as President and I would fight for clearer advice and support from the college, as well as continue to promote wellbeing opportunities as blended learning continues.

I would make a strong leader for the SA because I already have knowledge of how this role works. I have built relationships throughout the college and I will always be ambitious by delivering a first-rate experience through you: the student.
