My name’s John McKellar and I’m a 35-year-old father of one. I study HNC Social Sciences with a particular affection for History. I’d be a suitable candidate for President of the Students’ Association as I’m unburdened by any concern for the egos of excessively wealthy businesspeople who treat the college like a piggybank. As your representative, I'll give students an unremitting voice and agitate for better communication with those most affected by management decisions: us students. Where no satisfactory response is received, I’ll ensure an explanation is provided as to why. I pledge to request a review of the roles and responsibilities of the Presidential Team and consult directly with students to identify any pockets of the student population who feel under- or un-represented. I'll seek to expand the roles of the team accordingly to make fixes where this is the case, including adding to my own responsibilities in line with need. I'll enquire about possible avenues to make CitySA more self-sufficient, such as exploring having CitySA registered with its own charity number to allow people to donate directly to the support of students. If that gets done, I’ll pledge 15% of my salary to CitySA for improvement to student activities and wellbeing support and challenge the College Principal to do the same. The motto of the college is “Let Learning Flourish”, and you deserve a learning environment more conducive to fulfilling those words. I’ll work relentlessly to help provide it.
