Candidate for the position of Creative Industries Faculty Rep

Kieran Danny Stephen Gorman

It is the task of all great writers to hold the powerful to account.

Provide assistance to those Students who have difficulty under standard assessment conditions, including:

  • extra time.
  • separate accommodation during in-class tests to reduce noisiness, stress and distractions.
  • scribes for those who have difficulty writing and/or typing quickly.
  • reading assistance for those who have difficulty reading text quickly.
  • a choice between writing or typing during tests and tasks for those who find one easier than the other.
  • specialised fonts and word size for those with difficulty reading standard fonts and sizes.

Allow Students on the Professional Writing Skills course to vote on which texts they wish to analyse before the course begins, providing multiple books, films and poems from various genres to choose from.

Create a consistent system of 20 - 30 minute breaks for every class. The breaks may still be a different length if a majority of Students indicate that they would prefer to return to class earlier or later during the lesson itsself.

Create a work space for Students within the library where they can compare notes and study together outside of class hours.

Platform/ Ideology

I believe strongly in the importance of democracy, individuality and liberty. As such, it is important that the faculty and their teaching methods reflect the interests and values of the student body, and so should regularly consult Students, with consensus or majority decision making sometimes being necessary during lessons. Each Student must be given room to breath, with study material not taking so much precedent that it causes stress to develop.
