My name is Iona Gibson, I am studying Business and would like to take on this role alongside my studies. I am excited about this opportunity as I am an organised and enthusiastic person, who is keen to meet new people and learn about how I can improve student wellbeing.
I want to voice the opinion of our students, allowing for progressive and respectful discussions to be brought up, that may lead to a more accepting community. I want to make students and lecturers aware of the support they can receive, such as mental health advice, and show there is no shame in using these services.
Highlighting physical and learning disabilities may reveal how accessible our college actually is, and alongside this concern I would like to create a campaign to discourage damaging and offensive language.
For communities such as the LGBTQ+, women and ethnic minorities, we have made great progress but I believe that we can take one step further by supporting societies and clubs. This will encourage progress and celebrate the history of these diverse communities of students.
My passion for these topics will help me succeed in running events and providing support for students. I am a considerate and focussed candidate who understands these issues and wants to work with students to create a welcoming learning environment.
If you are like me; dedicated, compassionate and would like to see a positive college being promoted, then you should vote for me.
