Alcohol-Free LGBTQ+ Spaces in Glasgow

No ratings yet. Log in to rate.

Finding inclusive spaces as an LGBTQ+ member is super important. Bars and club nights are great, but they’re not for everyone. Some people aren’t old enough to drink while others are simply not interested in alcohol. Below are five alcohol-free LGBTQ+ spaces you should check out asap!

Pride Sports

It’s sadly often the case that LGBTQ+ members are excluded from sports, but Pride Sports are working to change that. Their mission is to challenge homophobia, biphobia, and transphobia in sport and improve access to sport for LGBTQ+ people. Their website details a variety of LGBTQ+ sports clubs including Gay City Bowlers, Glasgow Sunflowers Basecall Club, Truegrip Badminton, and Make Mondays Basketball. Check out all the clubs on their website to make some new friends and get active.

Category is Books

Category is Books is a queer-owned book shop set up by Bug (they/them) and Fion (they/them). The shop was set up to create a space for LGBTQ+ members to learn about queer books, activism, and storytelling. They stock a variety of LGBTQ+ themed books, magazines and graphic novels. There is also a home delivery service if you can't make it to the shop in-person. If you’re a bookworm with a love for queer literature, you can find out more about the shop on their Instagram or get in touch with them via email at categoryisbooks@gmail.com.

Queer Art Club

This is a group for LGBTQ+ people to meet up and create art. No experience is necessary to attend, it is open to everyone who is interested in art and looking for a way to relax and make new friends. If you want to get your creative juices flowing, you can contact the group via Facebook.

Glasgow Wonders

Want to get in touch with your nerdy side? This is the group for you! Glasgow Wonders is an LGBTQ+ club for board game lovers. They host regular events at venues like The Merchant’s Guild.  All experience levels are welcome, so don’t be phased if you’re fairly new to the board game scene! To nerd out, contact them via Instagram.

CitySA's LGBTQ+ Network

A bit of shameless self-promotion from us to end the list! The LGBTQ+ network is starting up again so students can build a community and make more friends. We plan to do a range of activities such as arts and crafts, quizzes and focus groups! Come along to our taster sessions on Tuesday the 10th and Wednesday the 11th of February.

If you’d like more information about the network you can contact us by email at citysa@cityofglasgowcollege.ac.uk.
