The Results
Should the SA upgrade its spaces to be more engaging and fun?
With a 86% majority vote in favour, this idea has been passed.
THE ISSUE
Following the last two years, students overwhelmingly have reported feeling isolated and struggling to engage socially as transition to live with Covid. NUS reports that 62% of students where less likely to be interacting with other students in their institution pre pandemic and more locally only 66% of students at City of Glasgow College felt part of the college community when surveyed at the end of 2021.
THE IDEA
We are proposing upgrading our SA Spaces by revamping their overall appearance as well as introducing fun interactive elements that would draw students to the space and give them 'talking points' to meet new people. Based on benchmarking research of other Student Unions ideally we should introduce
- Gaming Ops (Pool tables / Arcade Games)
- Photo Ops (Booth or Selfie Wall)
- Bright Decor (artwork, rugs, plants etc)
- Soft Furnishings
THE IMPACT
Having more engaging spaces will in turn result in new student groups visiting the SA, allowing a wider scope for gathering new perspectives. By promoting the spaces as a means to socialise and encouraging students to do so we can address social anxiety on campus. Finally increasing foot traffic in our SA Spaces will increase our saleablilty of advertising spaces, allowing us to re-coup the costs of upgrades as well as funding other student initiatives.
