The No 1 Be-friending Agency logo

Part of how we do this is to ensure that older people can thrive in later life. We work with our dedicated volunteers to provide the support that local older people need to live happy, healthy lives. We work to help older people stay connected with their communities, alleviating loneliness, improving health and wellbeing and making communities stronger through volunteering

  • Digital Champions

This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

We're seeking keen, caring and enthusiastic people with a technological knack to join our volunteer team in Glasgow! This role will provide support for socially isolated and lonely people, as well as those most at risk from the Covid-19 virus, to be connected and stay well. We’re looking for people over 18 years old who are willing to support a wide range of people to access digital services, spaces and events.

Our clients, many of whom are isolated and vulnerable, shielding, self-isolating or physically distancing from others for age and/or health reasons (in line with the guidance from the Scottish Government), could really benefit from a bit of friendly help using technology such as tablets, phones and laptops to interact with the world around them. You can help to connect them digitally while they are shielding/unable to go out, empowering individuals to socialise with friends and family as well as attend online events we’ll be organising!

The kinds of things that Digital Champions might help people to do include:

    • setting up their device

    • setting up an email address

    • showing them how to use video calling

    • accessing online events

Specialised Digital Champion training, ID badges, ongoing support and reasonable, authorised out of pocket travel expenses are available for volunteers. No formal qualifications are necessary as training will be provided, but a good understanding of digital technology and good communication skills would be beneficial.

As part of becoming a Digital Champion with us, you’ll receive specialised training which will give you the skills to build confidence in others, helping them to understand and maximse the benefits of being connected online and accessing support remotely.

We are looking for volunteers to start ASAP and they must be able to volunteer for 4-8 hours a month for at least three months. The role is ongoing so people can apply anytime until the end of the year for this role.
