Food Train (glasgow)
Food Train Glasgow is a registered Scottish Charity that supports older people over the age of 65 in the City to access fresh groceries through a weekly shopping service, companionship and friendship through befriending and help round the home with tasks they are now struggling to do alone such as hoovering and changing bed linen.
We have volunteering opportunities across all services as shoppers, drivers, drivers assistants, befrienders and home support assistants.
The roles are interchangeable and all except the shoppers role require application to the PVG scheme which Food Train will do on volunteers behalfs.
Our services operate Mon-Fri every week and volunteers start times vary from 7.30am for shopping, 9.30am for deliveries, a half day on Fridays for home support and one hour per week at any time for befriending. We would typically recommend that shoppers give themselves 3-4 hours per shift and drivers 5-6 hours.
Both the grocery shopping and home support roles are undertaken in small teams with on the job training from experienced volunteers whilst the befriending is a lone working role within an older persons home and requires additional training.
Volunteering with Food Train is a great way to support the City's older population, give a little something back to local communities, meet new people, keep active and get to know the City!
We'd love to meet you!
