  • Comradeship Circles Technical Support Volunteer

    This opportunity is ongoing, with no end date.

    The Comradeship Circles service enables socially isolated older members of the veterans’ communities to enjoy camaraderie with others who share an armed forces background in regular and facilitated telephone group calls. This volunteering role aims to provide technical support to ensure the smooth running of the comradeship circles.

    Main Tasks:

    • Dialling in and welcoming callers to the circles
    • Ensuring circle attendance and notes are updated.
    • Reporting any concerns or issues with the circles to Supervisor.
    • Where possible, giving the Supervisor advanced notice of any absence.
    • From time to time, providing feedback and completing further training as necessary to support you and your volunteering role.

    Requirements: 

    • Agreeing and complying with Age Scotland's policies and procedures.
    • An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
    • IT literacy and experience using a laptop to work online.
    • Use of personal laptop with functioning microphone and speakers/headphones.
    • Access to a quiet space within own home or similar.

  • Comradeship Circles Facilitator Volunteer

    The Comradeship Circles service enables socially isolated older members of the veterans’ communities to enjoy camaraderie with others who share an armed forces background in regular and facilitated telephone group calls. This volunteering role aims to support the facilitation of the circle and involve members in group discussions and conversations.

    Main tasks: 

    • Welcome members to the circle
    • Facilitate group discussions and ensuring all members have a chance to participate.
    • Reporting any concerns or issues with the circles to Supervisor.
    • Where possible, giving the Supervisor advanced notice of any absence.
    • From time to time, providing feedback and completing further training as necessary to support you and your volunteering role.

    Required qualities and skills: 

    • Knowledge and appreciation of the veterans’ community and Armed Forces culture.
    • Creativity for developing engaging resources in response to circle participant’s interests.
    • Agreeing and complying with Age Scotland's policies and procedures.
    • An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities.
    • Communication: active listening and clear speaking.
    • People skills: the ability to interact effectively with a range of people. Caring and friendly nature to help people feel comfortable and encourage their active participation
